Stiklestad for the new millennium: 10 million from the Sparebankstiftelsen SMN!
We are pleased to announce that the SMN Savings Bank Foundation is donating NOK 10 million to the Stiklestad site and museum development project for the new millennium! The donation will contribute to the realization of the new main exhibition, which will be completed for the National Jubilee in 2030.
"This is fantastic news for us at Stiklestad and for the Museums Arven!" says a very pleased museum manager at Stiklestad National Cultural Center, Ingegerd Eggen. "Since the public funding came into place this summer, we have worked intensively to secure the 30 million we are missing. We see the fact that Sparebankstiftelsen SMN is now contributing 10 million as a great recognition of the project and of Stiklestad's importance both towards and after 2030."
Berit Rustad, CEO of Sparebankstiftelsen SMN, says the following about the award:
"Stiklestad is one of the most significant places in Norwegian history – both politically, religiously and culturally. When the museum is now to be developed further for a new millennium, it was natural for Sparebankstiftelsen SMN to contribute. The history of the place is one thing, but when Stiklestad now looks ahead and wants to respond to society's need for powerful democracy-promoting meeting places – then the foundation struck a chord with what we want to support. Being able to contribute to the work on a new exhibition is particularly important for us against this backdrop."

Facts about Stiklestad for the new millennium:
Stiklestad for the new millennium is SNK/MA's local initiative on the occasion of the National Jubilee 2030. The goal of the project is to further develop Stiklestad as an attraction, museum and meeting place and thus reach an even greater number of visitors from the local community, the region, Norway and the world.
The project's overall ambition is to contribute to democratic preparedness by strengthening Stiklestad's role as a bridge-building meeting place characterized by knowledge and dialogue.
Stiklestad for the new millennium includes both the reconstruction of existing cultural centers and landscaping.
The core is a new main exhibition of approx. 1000 m2 where the public will experience various representations of the battle in 1030, diverse stories about the symbolic place Stiklestad through a thousand years and of course: original objects. In addition, Borggården will be rebuilt into Borggårdsstua, a year-round multi-purpose arena with both a large and several small halls. A textile warehouse will also be established for the entire Museums of Arven. Upgrading the Stiklestad amphitheater, in collaboration with Verdal Municipality, and further development of Olavshaugen, in collaboration with the Norwegian Historical Monuments Association, are also part of the project.
The project is progressing as planned. A competition for a turnkey contract with collaboration is now underway. The contractor will be selected in March. Construction is scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Stiklestad for the new millennium has a price tag of 420 million. 390 million has already been secured through contributions from the state, Trøndelag County Council and Verdal Municipality. The SMN Savings Bank Foundation is now contributing 10 million.
