Gjersinghuset
Farmhouse from the densely populated area of Tinden on Verdalsøra. Built around 1850.
Comes from: The peak at Verdalsøra.
Age: From approx. 1850.
To the museum: 2007.
The farmhouse has a floor area of 66 m² on 1,5 floors. It was built of hewn timber, later it was boarded up on the outside, we don't know exactly when that happened. Findings inside (decoration) indicate that the house originally dates from the 1700th century. The roof is covered with cement stone on the original slate roof.
Gjersinghuset comes from the densely populated area of Verdalsøra, and it is the first building in the museum from that area. The house may represent the beach sitters who lived on Øra. They were fjord fishermen, wood flute players, sawmill workers or they could do different kinds of crafts.
That is to say, they were a minority who lived outside or on the fringes of the farming community that characterized the village and the district otherwise. But this social group at the end of the 1800th century also pointed forward towards our society where primary industries matter less, and people gather in cities and towns.
