The iron mining plant

Reconstruction of iron mining facilities with two types of blast furnaces.

The facility is an attempt to reconstruct an old iron mining facility. It consists of two types of blast furnaces, the Evenstad type and the Iron Age furnace.

The Evenstad oven was installed in 1989, the same applies to the resting shelter with fireplace and benches and the tool house (ore shelter). The pattern for all this is taken from Ole Evenstad's work "Fra myrmalm til jern og staal", originally written in 1790. Ole Evenstad described a method for producing iron that was put into use shortly after the Black Death in 1350. It is a different method than the one used in the Viking Age and the High Middle Ages.

The Iron Age oven was built in 2004. The oven type originates from the earlier Iron Age. It was Ivar Berre from Skogn who led the work when both ovens were constructed.
