Playroom from Getzgården at Ørmelen in Verdal. Built in the 1890s.

Playroom | Folkemuseeet | Stiklestad National Cultural Centre

Comes from: Getzgården at Ørmelen in Verdal.
Age: From the 1890s.
To the museum: 1986.

The playroom is built of masonry on a gray stone wall, the roof is covered with slate (lapsol stone from Sul). Outer dimensions are approx. 3,8×2,8 m. In the living room there is also a small oven with tin pipes through the ceiling.

Getzgården was once the residence of the director of Verdalsbruket, Johan Getz and his family. The administration of the mill was also located there.

When the building was given to the museum in 1986, it came with a complete inventory of toys, close to 250 items. These are stored in the magazine. When the museum took over the playhouse, the building was in poor condition, and extensive restoration was therefore necessary.

In 2000, the playhouse had to be moved further up the hill due to the protection of the stream. It also meant that a new foundation wall had to be made.
