About the activities
The medieval farm Stiklastadir
Step into the world of the Vikings, and experience the time when the chieftains ruled from their mighty guild halls. Take the step across the yard and move forward in time. In the medieval guest loft, houses and people tell stories about the Christian kings and the church's extensive power. The medieval farm Stiklastadir provides golden opportunities to both learn about and play in the time around the battle in 1030.
Archaeological excavation
An archaeologist conducts research by excavating traces and objects from the past.
At Stiklastadir you can play archaeologist. Join us in excavating a Viking grave!
The Longhouse
Visit the Vikings inside the Gildehallen and the residential part of Stiklastadir and hear the stories of the time before the battle.
On our tours you can get a deeper insight into how people lived in the Viking Age. What kind of food did they eat? What did they trade with the Sami? And how did the Vikings build these magnificent houses?
The guest loft
Also new this year are activities for children in the guest loft based on the secrets of the primstaff. Here, the children will hear stories about faith and superstition, and then create their own rule that everyone in Stiklestad must follow on this day.
Play the battle
Here you join the peasant army or the king's army and fight like a Viking with sword and shield! From 5 years
Viking game
Learn to shoot with a bow and arrow, and play in our large pilgrimage maze, as well as other Viking-inspired activities. You can borrow Viking clothing, helmet, sword and shield for photography.
Piling
Burial mounds are an important source of knowledge about the Viking Age. But how did a burial take place and what do we find in the mounds? We recreate a burial of a rich person in the Viking Age. Maybe we need volunteers, do you dare to volunteer?
Story time
Do you know the old Norse gods? The gods they believed in in the past, the gods who live in Åsgård? Join us for an exciting storytelling session, and hear about the time Tor lost his hammer and had to dress up as a bride.
Viking food
Learn about food traditions from the Viking Age. What did the farmer grow?
Stuggu
Step into everyday life as it might have been 1000 years ago. In Stuggu you will encounter the light and warmth of the open fireplace, the smoke escaping through the louver in the ceiling, and the faint glow from a simple oil lamp on the table.
A new faith is spreading among the farmers, and new building practices are making their mark on the farms. The cottage at Stiklastadir Medieval Farm is built as the earliest log houses may have looked. Here you get a glimpse of a time when great changes characterized society, in the time around Olav Haraldsson and the battle in 1030.
In the summer, much of the work takes place outdoors, but join us inside to see, hear and feel the story of life, crafts and houses in a time of transition between old and new faiths.
The Folk Museum
The folk museum at Stiklestad consists of over 30 buildings in a beautiful cultural landscape. Here you can go on a journey of discovery on idyllic paths, among buildings that house life, craftsmanship and history from the 1700th, 1800th and 1900th centuries.
Molåna Café
In the parlors of the venerable Trønderlåna you can buy coffee, cakes, waffles, ice cream and juice from the hosts dressed in period clothing. The parlors of the venerable Trønderlåna are a good place to take a breather.
The play barn and the toy shop
Vegvoktertunet is the favorite place for the youngest children. Here there are wooden animals waiting to be cared for and played with. In the yard there will be bustling life with stilts and skipping ropes, a pleasant yard host with stories from the old days,
We feed the animals
Many cozy animals live in Stiklestad, including sheep, pigs and chickens. Come along and feed the animals at the barn and stable.
Ingvaldsengården
In the carpentry workshop you will find the digital exhibition Krakken. The old machines still work, and the film shows how building protection craftsman Håvard makes a copy of the original Ingvaldsen stool from 1914
“The Postman – Letters from the Past” – Wandering Monologue
Join the museum's postman on a walk through the folk museum. Here you will be taken on a somewhat unusual postal route, where the mail bag is filled with special letters, letters that never reached the recipient. They contain powerful stories, from some of the most dramatic events in Verdal's history to close and romantic love letters.
With both mail delivery and stops with good stories along the way, this hike is suitable for everyone.
Based on a monologue by Jonas Sklett Løvik.

In the footsteps of St. Olav – permanent exhibition
Olav's canonization led to many pilgrims embarking on a pilgrimage to his grave in Nidaros. In this exhibition you can learn more about how Olav became one of the Nordic countries' most popular saints, his importance for pilgrimage in Norway and the ways in which he has remained an important figure in Norwegian history.
The Homestead – variations on a theme – new for summer 2026
From Rye to Husmannsplassen – and back again?
In 1975, the Rye homestead was rebuilt at Verdal Museum after being moved from Leirådalen. There, the building was intended to convey the history of homesteading in Verdal. In 2020, the house had to be moved again, after many years on damp and unstable ground. During the work, we uncovered photos and sources that showed that Rye had originally looked completely different from how it was rebuilt in the 1970s.
Verdalsraset, Molåna café – during Viking Summer 2026.
Photo exhibition about the Verdalsraset landslide in 1893, the largest natural disaster in Norway in modern times. 116 people lost their lives and over 100 homes were destroyed when huge amounts of quicksand crashed out and hit an entire local community. The exhibition conveys the disaster, the grief and the hope in retrospect.
The Factory of the Future – new 2026
In the foyer of the cultural center you will find the Future Factory, an interactive installation where the content is created in collaboration with young people.
The words you encounter are about our lives, and it is up to you to shape the future.

The story goes that the church was built over the place where Olav Haraldsson died in 1030.
