What is Stiklestad?
Summary
Stiklestad National Cultural Center is the museum at the site of the battle and the symbolic site of Stiklestad. We have a special responsibility for the stories related to Olav Haraldsson/Olav the Saint over a thousand years, better known as the legacy of Olav. In Stiklestad, you can visit the medieval farm Stiklastadir, the folk museum and the culture house with various exhibitions, as well as cultural monuments such as Stiklestad church and Olavshaugen. Every summer, the museum organizes the Olsokdagene festival in Stiklestad, where the Play about Saint Olav is central. Our collections consist of 30 cultural-historical buildings and approximately 30 objects.
The museum focuses on bringing history to life, historical craftsmanship, thematizing the use of history as well as developing Stiklestad as an arena for broad social dialogue.
In 2030, it will be a thousand years since Olav Haraldsson's fall in the battle of Stiklestad. This became a focal point in Norway's history, an event that has both historically and symbolically shaped Norway over a thousand years. We are therefore celebrating a big national anniversary where the whole of Norway is involved!
