Terrible accident
- Værdalen destroyed
Verdalsraset 19 May 1893
In connection with the 130-year commemoration of the Verdals race and the setting up of the Verdalsoriatoriet, we are showing the exhibition "Terrible accident – Værdalen destroyed» in the 2nd ed. at the cultural center. The exhibition we will be standing through the summer.
Throughout May, entry to this exhibition is free!
The exhibition is about the national disaster, the enormous mass, world society, grief and hope. The Verdals landslide in 1893 was a national disaster in which 116 people lost their lives as a result of the landslide, and more than 100 homes were destroyed. 55 million m3 mass of liquid quick clay erupted. It is thus the biggest natural disaster in Norway in modern times. With the recent May 17 celebration as a peaceful relief, we are taken into the disaster that is almost unfathomable, and which affects an entire society.
